Snow: Loving the Ambiance

Snow is synonymous with Sweden in the Winter. Here in Karlskrona it has snowed seriously just a couple of times but it’s a gift to experience. Peeking out of the window blinds in the morning you never know from one day to the next what the weather will be. Blowy? Snowy? Sunny? Rain? Fog? (Well, I kinda take that back because if as you wake in the morning you hear the fog horns from the harbor in the distance it pretty much confirms the fog!) After all this city is situated on the southern west tip on the ocean edge of Sweden. Weather reports are hard to outguess as the weather itself seems to be the boss of what it wants to do. But the snow is beautiful. Beautiful when it’s falling, being blown, covering everything in a literal white blanket. You want to say, “Shhh” to the world so nobody breaks the spell!

Especially in the countryside…it is beautiful with the snow contrasting with the homes and fields turning the landscape into a painting you become part of. Every mile and over every hill – around every corner…there is something amazing to see. As you go along there are little villages or towns that you drive through which you have to decide which side to look at quick because in an eyeblink you have passed through the whole of it! Then, on your way back home you have to look at the opposite side of the road just to be sure you didn’t miss anything going through it the first time!

Snow…On The Other Hand:

Anybody up for a game of Dodgeball? In Sweden trucks and heavy equipment any time of the year are a force to be reckoned with – especially in the snow! This country is built for snow and transport – the trucks are always clean, they are huge (much taller than in the States), and they go to (one right after another) and come from trekking all over Sweden and Europe. But they are really magnificent to watch – very cool.

In all honesty it’s impressive how well the roads are taken care of when the snow comes. The big graders and plows and gravel sanders are out doing business on the roads and highways well before and during any snow. However at the local level its still ‘self serve’ as always!

Enjoy the joy…enjoy the journey!
Stay toasty!
