Selfies In Sverige

Sometimes it’s hard to believe you’re in a foreign country!  Wherever you go, no matter where you are on earth, the sky is variable depending on the weather, and the seasons are in charge of the landscape.  However… there are certain indicators reflecting subtle yet remarkable assurance that, yes, in deed – it’s true…we must really be in Sweden!

Veeerrrry Interesting (yet, tasty!)…..The Kebab Pizza!

It is a definitive, that unless you have enjoyed your first Kebab pizza – you cannot fully appreciate Swedish cuisine.  Did I say Swedish?  First get out of your head the thought that this is a pizza.  It is actually a Middle Eastern adaptation that has become the most popular “pizza” in Sweden.  It is prepared with a very thin, flavorful crust with a light tomato sauce, covered with thinly shaved slices of meat (the kebab part), a delicious yogurt-based sauce, pepperoncini, and … French fries!  Try it – you’ll like it!!

No way would people not be able to find you if you lived at this address!  This apartment complex fits in purr-fectly with the neighborhood!
Is it Thursday?  Of course it is!  Swedes traditionally serve split pea soup (ärt soppa) and as a second course,  Swedish Pankakor (pancakes) with jam or fresh berries and whipped cream on Thursdays!  We enjoyed this evening visiting with a good friend.  The apartment building was built in 1908 and the entry way door off the street was originally for carriages.  The high Victorian ceilings, the fancy plaster moldings, the pine wood floor, the bay window looking out onto the street, were all very charming.  A little something about that floor – pine trees here in Sweden grow much harder and denser with the shorter growing season, so a pine board floor is much more durable than one made from American, especially Southern pine.
Traditional culture in classic art!
Henrietta’s is a popular yarn store – Swedish handverk is alive and thriving!

And if we don’t show the selfies in the food showcases, there might be some hard feelings… so check out the venue!

And, OK, the deli case wants in too…(the little hotdogs!)
